Founding Guitarist Of Allman Brothers Band, Dickey Betts, Is In A Critical Condition Following Accident

Dickey Betts, the founding guitarist of legendary Allman Brothers Band, has been in what’s being described as a ‘freak accident’ and is now in a critical condition.

The Sarasota Herald-Tribune, a local paper from where Betts resides, is reporting that the 74-year-old was playing with his dog when he fell, hitting his head.

The incident has caused Betts’ brain to swell, and he’ll be undergoing brain surgery later this week to relieve it.

The paper spoke to Betts’ manager, David Spero, where he expresses how excited Betts was to go on tour later this year with The Dickey Betts Band.

“It was just a few days ago that Dickey was telling me how excited he was to get back in front of the fans on Nov. 1,” he said.

“It is very unfortunate, for all involved, that we need to cancel those shows. Please add Dickey into your thoughts and prayers. I’ll keep everyone updated on his expected progress.”

This comes after another founding member of ABB, Gregg Allman, passed away last year at age 69 due to a myriad of health problems.
