The Gaslamp Killer Kicked From Aussie Festival Lineups Over Rape Allegations

American producer The Gaslamp Killer has been pulled from two Australian music festival lineups after he was accused of drugging and raping two women.

Australian promoters The Operatives have confirmed that The Gaslamp Killer (real name William Bensussen), will no longer be performing at Let Them Eat Cake or Breakfest festivals.

“In light of the accusations against The Gaslamp Killer and all it encompasses, we feel that a cancellation of the upcoming tour is currently the only option,” the group say in a statement released today.

“Hopefully there will be some clarity on the entire case in the near future, and justice is served in truth. Be good to each other people, there is enough negativity in the world, and abuse of any kind is something that we will not tolerate in any way, shape or form.”

In an earlier statement released on Saturday, 14th October, The Operatives said they were “reeling” from the accusations against Bensussen, which were made by a woman on Twitter at the weekend. At the time, the group hadn’t pulled Bensussen from their festival lineups.

“We’ve toured him several times over the last nine years and this was to be his first in almost five years,” they wrote.

“The accusations are extremely serious, our events have always been aimed at being all inclusive, a safe space, and we absolutely condemn any abuse of any sorts.”

Bensussen released a statement in response to the rape allegations at the weekend. Read The Operatives’ full statements, below.
