George Michael’s Family Deny Reports Of “Suspicious” Death, Thank Fans For “Incredible” Support

The family of late pop star George Michael have denied reports of “suspicious circumstances” surrounding the singer’s death, while thanking his fans for an “incredible outpouring of love”.

A statement from Michael’s publicist (via The Guardian) reads:

“The family and close friends of George have been touched beyond words by the incredible outpouring of love for him in the hours and days since his death.

“For someone whose life was ultimately about his music and the love he had for his family and friends, his fans and the world at large, there could be no more fitting tribute than the many, many, kind words that have been said and the numerous plays his records have received.

“Contrary to some reports, there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death, and from the bottom of our hearts we thank those who, rightly, have chosen to celebrate his life and legacy at this most distressing of times.”

The family’s comments come as Michael’s boyfriend reveals he was the one who found the singer’s dead body on Christmas morning, after Michael had died alone in his Oxfordshire home.

Since Michael’s death at the age of 53, his manager has revealed the musician’s cause of death was heart failure, while tributes have been flowing in from around the world.
