Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has used a trip to the hardware store to tease big things for the band in 2015.
Late yesterday, 25th November, Armstrong shared a photo (below) via his Instagram account, suggesting that the pop-punk icons will be returning to win over more hearts and minds next year. The image shows a collection of stickers and brass numbers being used to spell out “GREEN DAY 15”.
The caption Armstrong attached to the photo has left fans super-excited. “I’m in a hardware store in Queens, and this is on my mind,” he wrote, concluding with, “#greenday15 #thefutureisnow #greendayforever.”
Green Day had previously announced they would take a break from touring after playing Soundwave and two US shows earlier this year. The 2015 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominees last released new music in 2012, in the form of three studio albums named ¡Uno!, ¡Dos! and ¡Tré!.
Interestingly, earlier this month it was announced that Armstrong had scored a role in a forthcoming music comedy film called Geezer. As Loudwire have noted, Armstrong has written new material for the movie, and will also perform in the film.
While new Green Day music continues to evade us, Armstrong’s snap-happy hardware-shopping suggests fans may not have to wait much longer.
