Groovin The Moo To Come To Dubbo?

Mayor of Dubbo Matthew Dickerson has set his sights on bringing Groovin The Moo to his city. “[One Night Stand] proved to everyone in Dubbo that we can handle large scale events and we want those large scale events,” he told ABC Western Plains radio. “We’re trying to secure Groovin The Moo for next year,” he added.

triple j’s One Night Stand attracted 18,000 punters, only a quarter of whom were from Dubbo. Mayor Dickerson said:

People were on road trips from Melbourne and coming down from the top end of Queensland. The people that were in Dubbo over that weekend were from literally across Australia.

But Groovin The Moo promoter Stephen Halpin isn’t sold on bringing his festival to a new city. He explained in an interview with FasterLouder:

I think the thing with festivals is ‘Don’t Be Greedy’. If it’s working and making a reasonable amount of money then just stick with it.

The problem for us is that we’re currently spread over three weekends and we can’t really add any more dates.”

Previous attempts to bring the festival to Albury and Darwin failed because of the small populations of those towns. Mayor Dickerson is, however, optimistic, saying, “What really surprised me was how far people travelled.”

This year’s iteration of Groovin The Moo featured the likes of Amity Affliction, Frightened Rabbit, The Kooks, Tegan and Sara and They Might Be Giants. Check out all our coverage of Groovin The Moo 2013 here.
