Your karaoke dreams have come true. Queen has launched a new app called FreddieMeter so you can sing like Freddie Mercury. The app shows you how closely your voice matches Mercury’s range by analysing your pitch, timbre, and melody.
It’ll then assign you a score from 0-100. The app comes with four song options, the four go-to sing-along Queen tracks. ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’, ‘Somebody to Love’, and ‘We are the Champions’. You can also challenge your friends in the app.
It was created by Google Creative Lab and Google Research and has been trained using Freddie Mercury’s isolated vocals along with samples of people trying to sing like him.
The app was launched to support Mercury Phoenix Trust. It’s a charity founded by Queen members and manager: Brian May, Roger Taylor and Jim Beach. The charity aims to raise awareness and funds for the fight against HIV/AIDS — the app is also honouring the 44th anniversary of Queen’s first live performance of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’. It was at the Empire Theatre in Liverpool in November 1975.

The app was trained on and has been optimised for individual singers. There’s no need to stress either, app-creators say your audio isn’t uploaded to servers to be analysed so it’s a totally private affair.
FreddieMeter is another instalment in Youtube’s celebrations for the Queen film clip for ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ reaching one billion views. The milestone coincided with the release of the remastered HD version of the video. ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ was the first pre-1990s video to hit one billion views on YouTube.
