Lagwagon Ditch Skate Punk On ‘The Cog In The Machine’

90s skater punks Lagwagon are back with their first original song in six years, The Cog In The Machine, and it sees Joey Cape and co ditch the pop punk leanings of albums like Let’s Talk About Feelings and get stuck into a heavier, riffier sound.

The song is taken from Lagwagon’s first studio album in nine years, Hang, due for US release on 28th October. For those of us who listened to Lagwagon in the early 90s The Cog In The Machine harkens back to the band’s introductory records, like 1994’s Trashed, while picking up a slick but not too polished vibe. Think 80s metal meets Foo Fighters with those classic Lagwagon melodies.

Frontman Cape told Noisey the new track is a firm example of Lagwagon’s present position musically. “I think The Cog In The Machine is the core sound of Lagwagon in our current state,” he said.

Lagwagon’s last release was 2008 EP I Think My Older Brother Used to Listen to Lagwagon. The band are set to play both Soundwave 2015 and its NZ spin-off Westfest. No word yet on any Australian headlining gigs but we reckon they’re a good chance for .
