Deftones reckon they’ll be touring Australia this November.
Frontman Chino Moreno just dropped the bombshell live on triple j, telling hosts Veronica & Lewis that the alt-metal act would be touring here with their 8th studio LP Gore “before the end of the year”.
“Australia’s always been so great for us and our sales there are insane,” he said. “The fact that, like, we have a top 5 record in a country that’s so far away… it’s exciting.”
It comes after turtablist Frank Delgado told Music Feeds that Deftones would “most definitely” be touring their new album Down Under at some stage.
At the time he said they wouldn’t rule out playing a festival, which made metalheads start salivating at the notion they might be joining DevilDriver on the Legion festival lineup.
But Chino’s latest announcement all but rules that out.
Either way, it’s stellar news after the heartbreak that was their Soundwave 2016 tour cancellation, which Delgado told us came as a bit of a shock.
“I guess so, yeah,” he said. “I mean, I just knew that we had it on the books and then it was gone (laughs) shit like that happens in this business so we just recoup and go to plan B.”
Check out our full interview with Delgado – where he discusses weird tattoos, his experiences in Paris on the night of the Bataclan attacks, and whether or not Deftones would be up for a Justin Bieber collab – here.
Meanwhile, the band’s new album, Gore, is out now.
