Illy has announced a rescheduled Traralgon, Victoria show for Saturday, 8th November, to take place at the Kay Street Entertainment Complex. Illy was set to perform at the venue over the past weekend, however, the performance was cut short after a punter attacked the rapper with a plastic glass.
As Music Feeds reported yesterday, the Traralgon show was the last of a string of rural Victorian tour dates. Illy had only performed five songs when a glass was thrown at him from the crowd, hitting him just under his eye. He wrote that he sustained “a small cut” but that it was “nothing to worry about”.
“I know a lot of people went out of their way, paid money for a hotel or babysitters or just for the tickets. They missed out, so we’re gonna try and rectify that,” the rapper told Triple J yesterday (see below). “We’re rescheduling the show… because it’s not fair that everyone gets put out,” he later added.
According to a statement released by Kay Street Entertainment Complex operators, punters with tickets to the aborted Saturday, 13th September performance will receive free entry to the rescheduled 8th November show. New tickets are also available. Readers can check out full ticketing details below.
“There’s been some people online saying, ‘The show must go on’. I just think that’s bullshit. This is my work, I’m responsible for me and the people on stage,” said Illy. “You’ve gotta do the right thing… if anyone else was at work and a someone threw a glass at them, they probably wouldn’t continue.”
The Melbourne artist expressed similar sentiments in a post to his official Facebook page directly following the incident. “If me or my crew get hurt and have to cancel shows, there’s a group of people I’m responsible for who are directly affected. It’s bigger than just me,” the rapper told fans.
Writing on their official Facebook page, the operators of the Kay Street Entertainment Complex indicated that the patron responsible for throwing the glass has been identified and will be barred from the venue. The operators indicate that “ongoing and further action will be taken” against the individual.
