Kanye West Responds To Petition Against His Glastonbury Appearance

There’s been much conversation about Glastonbury Festival’s decision to book Kanye West as a headline act, and now Yeezy himself has spoken out about the backlash.

Soon after Kanye’s appearance at the festival was announced, an online change.org petition began circulating, asking Glastonbury to “Cancel Kanye West’s headline slot” and to “get a rock band” instead.

Speaking with Q Magazine (via NME), West has reportedly called the petition “an insult to music fans all over the world”, a phrase which echoes the exact language used about Kanye West in the petition itself.

The rapper also reportedly denied that race was a driving force behind the petition. It’s worth noting here that the petition’s creator has already admitted that he started it as a joke reaction to the announcement, and he didn’t expect it to change anything.

Glastonbury organiser Emily Eavis has also defended the festival’s decision to book Kanye as a headliner, despite revealing that she has received death threats because of it.

“Ultimately, there is no question in my mind that we have got one of the greatest artists of his generation headlining, and we have no regrets at all about booking him,” she said earlier this year.

Kanye West will headline Glastonbury stage on Saturday night, following on from Florence + The Machine’s fill-in Friday night headlining performance where she paid tribute to an injured Dave Grohl with a stunning cover of a Foo Fighters classic.

While Dave Grohl’s broken leg has prevented the Foo Fighters from paying Glasto this year, Grohl has already weighed in on Kanye’s upcoming appearance, predicting that it “could be the greatest show of all time.”
