Katy Perry’s father is having a fairly severe crisis of conscience. Keith Hudson, an evangelical Christian pastor, has labelled his pop-star daughter a “devil child”, asking those at his church to pray for Perry, claiming she needs “healing” and is a false idol.
The Sun have stated that, during a recent sermon held in Santa Fe Springs, California, Hudson allegedly told his flock, “They ask how can I preach if I produce a girl who sang about kissing another girl?” He continued to enlighten his faithful followers of the exact moment he realised he had raised the spawn of Satan – during one of her live concerts:
“I was at a concert of Katy’s where there were 20,000. I’m watching this generation and they were going at it. It almost looked like church. I stood there and wept and kept on weeping and weeping. They’re loving and worshipping the wrong thing.”
Perry comes from a very religious background, with her mother Mary Hudson also being a pastor. Die-hard fans will surely know that back in 2001, Perry released a gospel album under the name Katy Hudson but, judging by her comments during a recent red carpet interview, it doesn’t seem like it’s been compatible with her Hollywood lifestyle:
“God is still inside of me and I still talk to him every day. I don’t go to one particular church. I’m open to the idea. It’s just I haven’t been able to in the past few years.”
I’m sure a lot of people have come up with different terms for Katy Perry, though “devil child” seems oddly specific. Maybe it was just her music that made him cry?
