Kimbra, Janelle Monae Sydney Show Postponed

US R&B star Janelle Monae‘s illness continues to take its toll on her co-headlining Australian tour with NZ alt pop queen Kimbra, with tonight’s Sydney gig at the Opera House now postponed after Monae took ill Saturday night and pulled out of her Melbourne performance.

Promoters Live Nation released a statement this morning confirming Monae was still unwell and has remained in Melbourne under medical supervision since the weekend. No dates have been set for the rescheduled performance but Live Nation say they’re working towards a date “later this week”.

Ticket holders are urged to hold on to their tickets until an announcement is made regarding the rescheduled date tomorrow, Tuesday, 20th May. Read the full statement from Live Nation below.

Hundreds of punters at Melbourne’s Forum Theatre were left disappointed on Saturday night when, after Kimbra had completed the first set of the evening, Monae’s band took the stage to announce she would not be performing her scheduled gig just minutes before she was due to take to the stage.

Statement from Live Nation re: Janelle Monae/Kimbra Sydney performance

“Due to a sudden illness, Janelle Monáe was unable to perform in Melbourne at The Forum on Saturday, May 17.

Ms Monáe has been required to remain in Melbourne under medical supervision to assess her recovery.

Therefore the Sydney performance by Janelle Monáe and Kimbra on their Golden Electric Tour will not go ahead at the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall tonight, Monday May 19, as scheduled.

Live Nation is working to secure a rescheduled performance date later this week, subject to the progress of Ms Monáe’s recovery.

A further announcement will be made on Tuesday May 20 and ticket holders are urged to retain their tickets until that time.

Janelle Monáe and Live Nation regret any inconvenience that the rescheduled Sydney date may create for ticket holders.”
