Kurt Cobain’s Famous ‘Unplugged’ Cardigan Is Being Put Up For Auction

Nirvana‘s performance on MTV Unplugged might be one of the most famous televised performances in history, and now history can be a part of your wardrobe – the iconic cardigan Kurt Cobain donned in the performance is being put up for auction.

This isn’t the first time the olive-green cardigan has been up for auction, as it was originally put up for auction four years ago according to Altpress. The person who won that auction, who wishes to remain anonymous, said that the item was stored “in acid-free tissues” and in a safe.

“It’s very important that we don’t wash it,” Darren Julien of Julien’s Auctions tells Rolling Stone. “The stains are still there. There’s even cigarettes burns that you can see on the sweater.”

While the sweater originally sold for $137,500 USD, it’s expected that this time round it’ll go for anywhere between $200,000 – $300,000 USD.

Also for auction is Cobain’s Fender Mustang that he used during the In Utero tour, which is expected to go for anywhere between $300,000 – $500,000. Both items are accompanied by a handwritten letter from Courtney Love.
