Lana Del Rey has hit back at critics over her Instagram post where she discussed double standards in the music industry. ICYMI: Lana Del Rey uploaded a note to Instagram which firstly mentioned a new album is in the works (yay), but also responded to long-standing criticisms that she “glamourises abuse”.
Basically, the post saw LDR explain that while Doja Cat, Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande and more have been embraced and celebrated for expressing their sexuality, she feels she was “crucified” for singing about being “embodied” and feeling “beautiful”. She pointed out that she’s been accused of “glamorising abuse”.
“I’m fed up with female writers and alt singers saying I glamourise abuse when in reality I’m just a glamorous person singing about the realities of what we are now seeing are very prevalent emotionally abusive relationships all over the world,” she wrote.

Del Rey received a bunch of backlash over the post, with some frustrated that she was comparing herself to women of colour.
She commented on her original post saying, “This is sad to make it about a WOC (women of colour) issue when I’m talking about my favourite singers. I could have literally said anyone but I picked my favourite fucking people.”
She continued, “This is the problem with society today, not everything is about whatever you want it to be. It’s exactly the point of my post — there are certain women that culture doesn’t want to have a voice. It may not have to do with race — I don’t know what it has to do with. I don’t care anymore but don’t ever ever ever bro call me racist that is bullshit.”
Closing her statement, Lana Del Rey said, “And my last and final note on everything,” she began.
“When I said people who look like me — I meant the people who don’t look strong or necessarily smart or like they’re in control, etc. It’s about advocating for a more delicate personality, not white women — thanks for the Karen comments tho. V helpful.”
Finishing off the saga, she posted a GIF of herself with the caption #fuckoff.
The good news is that Lana’s album is expected to arrive on Saturday, 5th September.
