Listen To The Haunting New Thom Yorke And Flea Song ‘Daily Battles’ For Edward Norton Film

Written by Alex Gallagher on August 22, 2019

Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke has collaborated with Atoms for Peace bandmate and Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea for a new song to feature on an upcoming film by Edward Norton titled Motherless Brooklyn.

‘Daily Battles’ is led primarily by sparse piano and Yorke’s vocals, with Flea contributing bass and trumpet. Yorke was approached directly by Norton to contribute the track for his film, which is an adaptation of the 1999 novel of the same about a private investigator attempting to solve his mentor’s murder in 1950s New York.

“Thom is so good at weaving together personal anguish and the crushing politics of the time,” Norton told Rolling Stone. “The way that you get the sense in his songs of the difficulty of holding on to your own spirit within times that feel oppressive, and that is so much the straddle that is taking place in this film, which is loneliness and institutional depression and racism.”

Check out ‘Daily Battles’ along with a jazz version by trumpeter Wynton Marsalis below. Both versions will be released on a 7″ single due out Friday, 4th October.

Motherless Brooklyn is set for release in November. Yorke released latest solo album ANIMA last month.
