Major Lazer Cartoon Series To Debut In 2015

US television network Fox has picked up a cartoon based on Major Lazer, the alter ego of Californian producer Diplo. The show is reportedly set to debut some time in 2015 and will come with its own soundtrack, featuring new Major Lazer collaborations with Cat Power and Riff Raff.

As Consequence of Sound reports, both Major Lazer and California hip-hop group Odd Future were slated to get their own shows on Adult Swim back in 2011. While OF’s show, Loiter Squad, recently completed its third season, the Major Lazer show was shelved, seemingly indefinitely.

However, according to a recent Billboard profile on Diplo, who records and performs as Major Lazer with Jillionaire and Walshy Fire, Fox has now picked up the show. The program will follow a “Rasta superhero,” likely the beefed-up character who adorns the trio’s artwork.

According to Billboard, the launch of the Major Lazer cartoon will coincide with the release of the third Major Lazer album, a follow-up to 2013’s warmly received Free The Universe, which featured collaborations with Santigold, Peaches, Wyclef Jean, Shaggy, Laidback Luke, and Ezra Koenig.

Consequence of Sound reports that Diplo already has 30 tracks in the works for the new album and has recently been busy collaborating with Lorde, Sia, and Madonna, who may also appear on his new LP. The producer recently unveiled the compilation Random White Dude Be Everywhere.
