Meet The First-Ever Ned Flanders Themed Metal Band, Okilly Dokilly

Themed metal bands can be a joy to behold, especially when they’re drenched in pop culture. Take, for example, the newly-formed Phoenix, Arizona outfit Okilly Dokilly, who have combined the raw power of hardcore metal with the raw masculinity of The Simpsons‘ church-going neighbourino, Ned Flanders.

As Rip It Up reports, Okilly Dokilly deem themselves “the world’s only Nedal band”, and they come complete with perfectly ironed slacks, green pullovers, pink shirts and moustachioed mugs.

So who are the chaps behind Okilly Dokilly? Well there’s Head Ned, Red Ned, Thread Ned, Stead Ned and Bled Ned, of course.

Head Ned says the idea for the band came at a convenience store, which was most likely the Kwik-E-Mart.

“Myself and our drummer [Bled Ned] were in line at a grocery store, entertaining ourselves by coming up with really cutesy names for really hardcore, brutal bands,” Head Ned says.

“The name Okilly Dokilly came up and was very funny to us. We ran with it. I contacted a few friends [Red Ned, Thread Ned and Stead Ned] and here we are.

“Most of us have played in other bands around our hometown. This is definitely the heaviest sounding project any of us Neds have done.”

As for their music, Okilly Dokilly say “most of our songs are direct Ned quotes”, and they’re not lying. The band’s current list of demos (below) include songs titled They Warned Me and Nothing At All — because remember this?

“Feels like I’m wearing nothing at all. Nothing at all. Nothing at all…”

There’s also the track All That Is Left — “It’s our homage to the Leftorium, and the bridge is entirely left handed puns,” the band say.

Okilly Dokilly’s tunes are super-nedal. Head Ned describes them as, “Not as fast as Bartcore, and a little cleaner than Krusty Punk. Not as heavy as Homer Jent. Nedal is a happy medium in the Simpscene.”

Outside of their music, Okilly Dokilly say their favourite hobbies are “watching The Simpsons“, “plenty of Futurama” and, of course, “politely asking for the return of our power tools, usually with little success”.

Okilly Dokilly will play their first hometown show on 5th September, on their way to their ultimate goal. As Head Ned explains, “In reality, this is all just an over-the-top attempt at getting Matt Groening’s autograph, even if it comes on a cease and desist letter.”

UPDATE 17/08/15: Looks like fellow Simpsons-themed band, Australia’s own Dr. Colossus, may have just incited a war with their Flanders-loving neighborinos.
