Hear Muse’s First ‘Drones’ Song, ‘Psycho’

No more dubstep or three-part operatic epics. Muse are back with a brand new song and it’s pure unadulterated rock. The brand spanker, dubbed Psycho, is packing one hell of a dirty blues riff, a relentless marching drum line, and plenty of lyrics that would upset your nan.

Choice lyrics such as, “Your ass belongs to me now,” and, “I’m gonna make you a fucking psycho,” are brought to life in the lyric video for the song by a saliva-spraying moustachioed drill sergeant, barking orders at the band.

The song itself also seems to gel with the concept of the album as a whole, with frontman Bellamy likening “drones” themselves to human psychos.

“To me, ‘Drones’ are metaphorical psychopaths which enable psychopathic behaviour with no recourse,” he explains. “The world is run by Drones utilising Drones to turn us all into Drones.

“Drones explores the journey of a human, from their abandonment and loss of hope, to their indoctrination by the system to be a human drone, to their eventual defection from their oppressors.”

While there’s still no news of an Australian tour just yet, Muse will embark on a short, six-date expedition of relatively intimate UK venues starting next week, which will no doubt see some new material tested.

Drones will be released in Australia on 5th June, via Warner Music, while the disc’s first official single, Dead Inside, will be unveiled later this month. Matt Bellamy and co recently forecasted that their first single would be too offensive for radio.

But our first taste today of the heavy-ness that is Psycho seems to flag a triumphant return to the band’s rockin’ roots.
