The 2021 National Indigenous Music Awards have been pushed back due to the current outbreak of COVID-19 and subsequent lockdown and restriction measures.
Originally scheduled to take place on Saturday, 7th August at Darwin Amphitheatre, organisers are now looking for a new rescheduled date for the awards ceremony, which will be announced in due course. All current ticket holders will be contacted and able to either hold onto their tickets for the to-be-confirmed new date or access a refund.
“It is unfortunate yet the best choice for all our artists and community that we move this year’s event to ensure the night celebrates togetherness,” commented NIMA’s Creative Director Ben Graetz, in a statement confirming the news.
“Community support and ticket sales have never been higher than this year and it is clear that First Nations artists have never had more to celebrate. We look forward to having the opportunity to honour the incredibly talented artists who have contributed to putting First Nations music on the world stage at a later date in 2021.”
This year’s NIMAs were announced earlier this month, with The Kid LAROI, Baker Boy and Sycco leading the nominations. A huge lineup of First Nations talent was also set to perform live on the evening, with the likes of Baker Boy, Miiesha, Electric Fields, King Stingray, Kee’ahn and Alice Skye all on the bill.
