New Details Emerge In Prison Killing Of Convicted Paedophile Ian Watkins

New details have emerged in court about the murder of disgraced former Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins, with a UK jury hearing fresh evidence about the fatal attack inside HMP Wakefield last October – including what was allegedly said to him in the moments after the violent stabbing.

Watkins had been serving a lengthy prison sentence following his 2013 conviction for multiple horrific child sexual offences, housed in a block known as ‘Monster Mansion’ due to the dangerous and/or high profile criminals who called it home. He died after being attacked in his cell in what prosecutors allege was a planned stabbing carried out by two fellow inmates.

According to evidence presented in court, Watkins sustained fatal injuries to his neck during the incident. Prosecutors allege one inmate entered his cell and carried out the attack while another acted as a lookout and later assisted in disposing of the weapon.

The jury also heard that, as one of the accused was being escorted back to his own cell following the incident, he allegedly made a remark directed at Watkins, saying: “Have a good night’s sleep, Watkins lad.” The alleged comment was presented as part of the prosecution’s case outlining the sequence of events and behaviour following the attack.

Additional testimony from prison staff and witnesses detailed the immediate aftermath, with officers and workers responding quickly after Watkins was found seriously injured. CCTV footage and witness accounts have been introduced as part of the ongoing trial.

As previously reported, 25-year-old Rashid “Rico” Gedel – who performs as UK drill artist Broadday -and 43-year-old Samuel Dodsworth have been charged in connection with the killing. Prosecutors allege Gedel carried out the attack, while Dodsworth acted as a lookout and assisted in covering up the weapon. Both men deny the charges.

The case continues to move through the UK courts, with further evidence expected to be presented as the trial progresses.

Watkins had been jailed in 2013 after pleading guilty to a catalogue of horrific child sexual offences, including the attempted rape of a baby, bringing an immediate end to Lostprophets’ career and cementing his status as one of the most notorious figures in modern music.

We’ll bring you more news as it develops.
