Nine Inch Nails’ Original Soundtrack For ‘Quake’ Available On Vinyl For First Time

You’ll soon be able to spin Nine Inch Nails‘ iconic soundtrack for 1996’s Quake on your record player for the very first time. The remastered 2xLP edition – pressed on 180 gram vinyl – of Trent Reznor’s score for the game is available on the NIN website now.

The haunting, mostly ambient soundtrack for id Software’s lauded first-person shooter was provided by Reznor to the company free of charge, and received a tremendously positive critical reception for what it contributes to the game’s overall atmosphere.

Indeed, it remains one of the more ambitious soundtrack projects for a video game, and is still cherished for its scope and execution.

“It is not music, it’s textures and ambiences and whirling machine noises and stuff,” Reznor explained prior to the game’s release. “We tried to make the most sinister, depressive, scary, frightening kind of thing… It’s been fun.”

In addition to the Quake soundtrack, a “definitive edition” of Reznor and collaborator Atticus Ross’ Academy Award-winning score for 2010 film The Social Network has also been made available.

Back in May, Reznor said he was using his time in pandemic lockdown to work on new music.

“The current plan is to finish up some scoring projects, work on my limited patience skills, deep dive into new NIN material, and hopefully be playing music live for you in 2021,” Reznor wrote in an update on Nine Inch Nails’ Instagram account.
