Oh, Sleeper Founding Bassist Lucas Starr Has Died, Aged 34

Lucas Starr, a founding member of metalcore band Oh, Sleeper, has passed away aged 34 after being diagnosed with stage four colon cancer.

Starr co-founded the band in 2006, and played bass on their first two albums — 2007’s When I Am God and 2009’s Son of the Morning. He left in 2011, shortly before the release of the band’s third album Children Of Fire.

Shane Blay, the band’s guitarist and clean vocalist, took to Instagram to post a brief but heartbreaking tribute to his friend.

“I snapped this photo the first time our music took us overseas…,” Blay wrote. “Sorry it’s shit.. you were always better at photos than me. At a loss for words right now, stage left will never be the same.”

Before Oh, Sleeper, Starr was a member of the emo/post-hardcore band Terminal. A full obituary detailing his life can be found here.

In October, Starr performed at a show in Texas which featured both Oh, Sleeper and a reunited Terminal. In a tweet following the show he said, “Overwhelmed by all the love and support last night. Wow. At a complete loss for words right now. I’m gonna need a minute to process everything.”

Oh, Sleeper have been dormant for a little bit now, but they did release a new song ‘Decimation & Burial’ at the end of last month. The song is likely taken from their upcoming album Bloodied/Unbowed which was meant to be released mid 2017, but there’s been no updates since then.

The band last toured Australia in 2013.
