Pixies Return With New Album & World Tour Announcement

Grunge forefathers the Pixies are back in action!

The American alt-rock veterans have just announced the imminent arrival of their sophomore post-reunion album, plus a brand new member.

Bassist Paz Lenchantin, who’s been touring with the band since 2014, has just been made legitimate, joining the Pixies as a permanent member.

It comes after she slapped some four-string and lent her dreamy soprano backing vocals to the band’s forthcoming 12-track LP, dubbed Head Carrier, which is due out on September 30th.

Described as “a unique aural mix of surrealism, psychedelia, dissonance and surf rock”, the disc was produced by Tom Dalgety (Killing Joke, Royal Blood) and is headed up by first single Um Chagga Lagga (below).

“This was a wonderful luxury, for us to have the time to be able to really work these new songs out,” said Pixies drummer David Lovering.

“By the time we started recording, we all knew the songs backwards and forwards, so it took half as long for us to make this album as it did to make Indie Cindy.  And it was great working with Tom…he started with us in pre-production and played a big part in keeping us focused on making the best music we could.”

And even more excitingly, the band have also announced a world tour off the back of the release, kicking off in Vienna this November.

No Aussie dates have been announced yet, but with a new album in the can, there’s bound to be some coming our way soon.

In the meantime, get psyched up by checking out the Pixies’ latest, Um Chagga Lagga – alongside the new disc’s official tracklist and artwork – below.
