Though they seemed poised for a Soundwave debut next year, AJ Maddah has ruled out Rise Against for the 2015 lineup. The band was strongly rumoured to be one of the names on the festival’s upcoming second lineup announcement after confirming that tour dates had been penciled in for February.
Rumours of a potential Soundwave appearance from the Chicago punk outfit first sparked back in June after singer Tim McIlrath told Music Feeds that the group, who released new album The Black Market in July, were considering several options that would bring them Down Under “in the first half of 2015“.
McIlrath later told Triple J that the band was looking at one of “two different tours” that would bring them over around “February/March”. Meanwhile, festival promoter Maddah indicated back in February that the band would “definitely” appear, though he later stated that he was merely “hopeful” they would.
When asked about a potential Soundwave appearance from Rise Against or fellow rockers The Gaslight Anthem earlier today, Maddah replied, “Neither. Sorry.” Maddah previously indicated that The Gaslight Anthem would likely tour in 2015, with the band telling Music Feeds that they are shooting for February.
However, things could be looking good for fans of Swedish punk rock outfit Millencolin. When the band was suggested to Maddah by a Twitter follower earlier today, the promoter replied only with a smile. Millencolin previously worked with Maddah when they toured as part of the Vans Warped Tour Australia.
Rise Against had been speculated as one of the four headliners promised for 2015. However, Maddah recently confirmed that there would not be a fourth headliner, saying he decided to book Slash and Marilyn Manson instead, though another headliner could be booked “if the right band presents itself”.
After confirming last month that headliners Faith No More and Slipknot will be exclusive to Soundwave 2015 and will thus not perform at any sideshows, the promoter also recently revealed that Marilyn Manson could potentially be added to that list. “At this point [Marilyn Manson is] festival only,” he told a follower.

Falling In Reverse
Falling In Reverse: Announced as part of the lineup this morning by several outlets and in some cases still remain, though don't appear on any official Soundwave artwork. When asked if they'd make the second announcement, Maddah replied, "Hopefully." -
EvergreenTerrace
Evergreen Terrace: Another band that was initially announced by several outlets and still remains on the pages of some, though not on any official Soundwave channels. Maddah sent the hardcore outfit an enthusiastic invitation over Twitter last month and last said that he's "hoping to get them in for 2nd announcement." -
Halestorm
Halestorm: Fans wanted these Pennsylvania hard-rockers bad. One fan even offered up her first born for the chance to see them at Soundwave 2015 and Maddah had indicated that he was strongly considering them. They weren't on this morning's lineup. NC1006_COAL_CHAMBER
Coal Chamber: When Coal Chamber reunited back in 2011, they played their first shows since 2003 during Soundwave 2012. With the band now busy working on a new album to be released some time in 2015, Soundwave would be a natural fit to promote the record to Australian audiences. -
Sydonia
Sydonia: Maddah and the band's management seemingly worked the whole deal out via Twitter, telling the Brisbane-based Pricewar Music to get the band's details over to his people. If not added to the tour, the hard-working Melbourne progressive outfit could very likely make the cut as a local addition.
