Rise Against To Headline Soundwave 2015?

UPDATE 20/08/14: The Soundwave Festival 2015 lineup has arrived! Full details here.

UPDATE 03/09/14: Rise Against have been ruled out of Soundave 2015 – full details here.

Rise Against have placed themselves in the running to be one of the four headliners set for Soundwave 2015. Speaking recently to Music FeedsMike Hohnen, singer Tim McIlrath said that the band are considering several options that would bring them to Australia in the first half of 2015.

“It’s been far too long since we’ve been in Australia, we’re conscious of that and we plan on returning soon,” McIlrath tells Music Feeds in the upcoming interview. Asked if there are currently any plans to return, the frontman said that there was “nothing I can talk about specifically.”

“We have a handful of opportunities that will be bringing us to Australia in the first half of 2015 and I imagine that one of those opportunities will bring us down there – it’s just in what capacity,” McIlrath continued. The frontman promised Aussie Rise Against fans that “[they’ll] see us very soon.”

Rise Against are certainly Soundwave headliner material, considering the punk rockers’ sizeable Australian fan base and their position at the top end of several upcoming US festival lineups, including that of Chicago’s famed Riot Fest alongside the likes of The National and The Cure.

Speaking recently to the Full Metal Lockdown podcast, SW promoter AJ Maddah’ revealed that “Soundwave has four headliners next year.” Asked back in February about the chances of RA appearing at SW, Maddah said it was a “definitely,” though he more recently said he was “hopeful.”

Asked about Rise Against’s bond with Australia, McIlrath said, “Australia’s always been really important. Australia was a country that we did not visit until after we had already been to a lot of places as a young band… It wasn’t until we got down there that we realised we had so many amazing fans that had been waiting for our arrival and we were blown away by that reception.”

The band recently announced their seventh studio album, The Black Market, which is set to drop on 15th July. The band have released a lyric video for the album’s first single, I Don’t Want to Be Here Anymore. A new album cycle means Aussies will likely see Rise Against sooner rather than later.

UPDATE 8:00pm 14/07/14: According to a report from FasterLouder, whilst speaking recently with Lewi Mckirdy on Triple J’s Lunch program, Tim McIlrath revealed that Rise Against’s return to Australian shores has been penciled in for February and March 2015, making their reunion with Aussie fans perfectly in-sync with the dates of Soundwave 2015, which kicks off late February.
