Seattle Police Release New Kurt Cobain Death Scene Photos

Earlier this month, the Seattle Police Department reexamined their files on the case of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain‘s suicide in anticipation of the 20th anniversary of the icon’s tragic death. The department has now shared a series of previously unreleased photos from the investigation.

Police at the time were adamant that the reexamination did not meant that the case had been “re-opened.” It was instead centred on developing four rolls of film that had been sitting in the precinct’s vault for 20 years, with two of the photos from these rolls subsequently shared with the public.

As reported at the time, the cold case officer found nothing new suggesting Cobain’s death was anything other than a suicide, as has been speculated by fans since the frontman’s untimely passing. “There was nothing earth-shattering in any of these images,” said a police spokeswoman.

“There’s still a lot of interest in this case,” added spokeswoman Renee Witt. “The detective went into the case files to refresh himself. The outcome of the case has not changed.” CBS News have shared the additional Cobain death scene photos, and readers can view them in the gallery below.
