Slash Says He’s Spent Lockdown Writing New Guns N’ Roses Music

In news guaranteed to whet your appetite for destruction, Slash has confirmed that Guns N’ Roses have been working on new music, marking the band’s first new material to feature seminal trio Slash, Duff and Axl Rose in 27 years.

Though there’s been plenty of speculation about new tunes on the way since the OG lineup partially reunited, we’ve yet to see anything materialise. But now, Slash has revealed that knuckling down on GNR tunes has been one of his top priorities since the band’s big tour plans got shit-canned during the Coronavirus pandemic.

“I’ve been pretty much a homebody, but I’ve been back and forth between my studio in the house and doing a lot of writing and recording on my own,” Slash told guitar retailer Sweetwater re: how he’s been spending lockdown (via Consequence Of Sound).

“I’ve been jamming with Duff and I’ve been jamming with Axl, and I’ve been doing stuff like that, so we’ve been getting some work done that way.”

The Les Paul-slinger continued: “I’m basically just focusing on writing new music and recording demos and recording guitar stuff for Guns and whatnot.”

So there you go, straight out of the top hat enthusiast’s mouth.

It comes after Slash last year confirmed that Gunners were hoping to put a new record out at some point soon.

More recently, Duff’s wife Susan mentioned that she’d heard some of the band’s new material, calling it “pretty epic”, and adding that Guns were “working fastidiously on killer new stuff”.

A hypothetical new record would of course mark the band’s first album since 2008’s infamous Chinese Democracy, LP, which didn’t involve OGs Slash or Duff and took frontman Axl Rose a mere 15 years to record (the last GNR album to feature Slash and Duff was 1993’s punk covers LP The Spaghetti Incident).

Last year, Gunners re-issued their legendary 1987 debut Appetite For Destruction with an insane 73 tracks, but kicked up some controversy by axing the offensive lyric-stuffed tune ‘One In A Million’.

This year, the band announced plans to crack into the children’s book market, by releasing a kids’ picture book — aptly titled ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ — which is coming this September

Meanwhile ICYMI: after Gunners’ last Australian tour, Slash promised that they’d be back.
