Soundwave 2015 Sidewaves Details

Not even a week has passed since the massive two-day Soundwave 2015 lineup was announced and punters are already pestering AJ Maddah about those all-important Sidewaves. Already we know that Slipknot, Faith No More, and “a few others” will be exclusive to Soundwave 2015.

According to Maddah, 2015 Sidewaves will most likely fall between the two weekends of the festival, though “one or two” may happen before or after. With five days between festival weekends instead of four, there will be more room for Sidewaves, however, there will be “less Sidewaves per city.”

Asked about the possibility of Perth receiving Sidewaves in lieu of a proper leg of the festival, the promoter said simply, “No.” Regarding the possibility of rural areas receiving Sidewaves, he said, “Most bands love Aus and would play Wagga if given the chance. Generally not feasible though.”

Meanwhile, Maddah has confirmed that Melbourne Sidewaves will indeed be affected by the closure of The Palace earlier this year. In addition to sending shockwaves through the city’s treasured live scene, Maddah said its closure will affect Sidewaves “big time,” as well as headline tours.

However, things are looking pretty good for Adelaide. In past years, the SA capital often missed out on Sidewaves in favour of the East Coast. However, Maddah has said it is now “logistically possible” to bring sideshows to the city, depending on “how well the festival sells in Adelaide.”

Asked if the format for Sidewaves will most likely see bands scheduled to play the second day of the Adelaide leg and the first day of the Brisbane leg — i.e. the respective end and beginning of the two weekends — performing Sidewaves in those cities, Maddah replied, “Yeah. That’s most likely.”

Slipknot / Faith No More

When asked if any of the 2015 headliners are exclusive to the festival, Maddah confirmed that Slipknot, Faith No More, and “a few others” will be exclusive to Soundwave 2015 and will not play any sideshows.

However, Maddah says there will “probably” be a Slipknot meet and greet in place of a Sidewave.

UPDATE 06/01/15: Maddah has confirmed that Slipknot and FNM are “definitely not doing any sideshows”.

Tonight Alive

It looks like Fall Out Boy and Tonight Alive will be doing sideshows together. In a since deleted tweet, Maddah said those shows will be in Sydney and Brisbane.

UPDATE 30/01/15: Fall Out Boy’s Sidewaves have been announced and they are with Twin Atlantic not Tonight Alive.

UPDATE 12/02/15: Sad news, Maddah says a Tonight Alive Sidewave is “looking unlikely”.

Gerard Way

Good chance.”

Speaking recently to Music Feeds Podcast, Way said, “I know that we’re looking into all options, like headlining sideshows or opening up for a sideshows. There’s options there, but definitely gonna be up to something. It’s definitely not just gonna be the Soundwave shows.” According to the singer, “The plan is to play a bunch.”

Maddah also recently confirmed to a fan on Twitter that Way will have a sidewave show. “There will be 1 for sure. Not sure where yet,” wrote the promoter.

UPDATE 06/01/15: Maddah has added that Way will likely play a Melbourne Sidewave at either the Hi-Fi or the Prince of Wales Hotel.

UPDATE 17/02/15: It’s looking likely that Way will be the support act at Smashing Pumpkins’ upcoming Sidewaves in Melbourne and Sydney, according to AJ Maddah.

Mayhem

Maddah says there’s a chance of a Mayhem sideshow in Melbourne.

Crown The Empire

Asked if there’s a chance for a CTE sideshows, Maddah said, “probably.”

Icon For Hire

Will “probably” happen. Maddah’s “thinking Brisbane“.

UPDATE 12/02/15: Maddah says a Sydney Sidewave is “definitely” possible and he’s working on it now.

Coldrain

Maddah has told one of his loyal followers that he’ll ensure First Wave band Coldrain or Dayshell perform a headline show in Adelaide. Speaking to Coldrain vocalist Masato earlier this month, he said the topic hand’t yet been raised but that he hopes the band plays some sideshows.

Dayshell

Maddah’s promised a fan that he will schedule a Dayshell or Coldrain performance for Adelaide, provided the fan reminds him in “early October.”

Conditions

Maddah says he thinks they should get a Melbourne sideshow.

Evergreen Terrace

A Melbourne sideshow is possible for the Florida five piece.

UPDATE 04/09/14: Following a grim update for Adelaide fans last month, AJ Maddah has now confirmed “there won’t be any” Sidewaves coming to Adelaide in 2015 – full details here.

UPDATE 19/10/14: Tassie, you can get excited. Maddah says it might be “time for a Tas Sidewave”“, charging Twitter follower and Terror Byte Clothing owner and manager Lindsay Mansfield to research potential venues in Hobart. Mansfield has responded, claiming to have found a willing venue for Maddah to approve. Yay!

UPDATE 06/01/15: Maddah has commented that there will be “fuck all” Sidewaves in Melbourne in 2015 due to the city’s lack of mid-size venues. The promoter cited “greedy developer cunts”, “corrupt City Of Melbourne Council scumbags”, and the recent loss of the Palace Theatre as the reason for the lack of Sidewaves.

He has since taken to Twitter to clarify that acts in need of bigger venues such as Marilyn Manson and Smashing Pumpkins and those such as Gerard Way who can make do in smaller capacity venues such as the Hi-Fi shouldn’t be affected and will likely see some Melbourne Sidewaves.

UPDATE 15/01/15: Maddah has promised big Sidewave announcements for Incubus, Slash and Steel Panther, Smashing Pumpkins and Fall Out Boy will be coming this Friday, 16th January. With more to be announced next week
