It could be cheaper to purchase tickets through Splendour In The Grass‘ official resale facility in 2019, after new laws were introduced in New South Wales making it illegal to resell tickets for more then their original price plus a 10 per cent transaction fee.
The laws, which apply to any tickets sold since Friday, 1st June, won’t apply to the 2018 edition of Splendour, but should make it cheaper to buy resold Splendour tickets in 2019, after the festival was recently criticised for its current resale fees.
This year, Splendour’s ticket resale facility is charging buyers 10 per cent on top of the original ticket price, plus a booking fee. Next year, that would be illegal, and could land the festival a $22,000 fine if it doesn’t change its system.
Splendour In The Grass declined to comment when asked by Music Feeds if it intends to comply with the new regulations next year.
Meanwhile, NSW Fair Trading Commissioner Rose Webb has told the ABC the new regulations will apply to Splendour, despite the fact the festival has its own resale facility.
“The total extra amount they can charge is 10 per cent – that’s including the cost of providing the facility to people,” she said.
The 2018 edition of Splendour In The Grass is scheduled to take place this July, with headline sets from Kendrick Lamar, Lorde and Vampire Weekend.
