Stand Atlantic’s ‘Lovergirl Era’ has officially entered the chat. After a decade of heartbreak anthems, emotional bangers and expertly weaponised pop-punk catharsis, the Sydney alt-rock heavyweights have today kicked off a bold new era with their brand new single Velcro, a bright, hook-loaded release that marks a pretty major shift for the band – pairing their trademark punchy chaos with a level of emotional openness we haven’t really seen from them before.
Velcro leans all the way into magnetic attraction, emotional vulnerability and the dizzy, all-consuming rush of wanting someone you simply can’t stay away from. Basically: this is Stand Atlantic making a love song. And like the title would suggest, it still absolutely rips.
Stand Atlantic – ‘Velcro’
Built around huge melodies and instant hooks, Velcro feels like a fresh chapter for the band sonically too, steering their ecstatic alt-rock energy into a brighter, more emotionally direct space.
And according to frontwoman Bonnie Fraser, that shift was very intentional.
“I’ve spent 10 years avoiding love songs and writing only about what ended in heartbreak,” Fraser explained. “On Velcro, that curse is finally broken.”
“It’s the most honest thing I’ve written in a long time – after a really intense period of writer’s block, so recording it live, raw and unfiltered felt like the only way to do it.”
“The curse is officially broken, the gates are open, our lovergirl era is on, and Velcro says you’re welcome.”
Honestly? Pop-punk Bonnie entering her lovergirl era might be one of the biggest plot twists of 2026.
The accompanying video – filmed at Sydney institution Young Henrys in Newtown – captures the band in full flight, spotlighting the sharp chemistry and live energy that’s helped turn them into one of Australia’s biggest modern alternative exports.
And make no mistake: the numbers behind Stand Atlantic are kinda ridiculous these days.
Since emerging from Sydney back in 2012, the band have quietly become a global powerhouse, building a catalogue that’s now surpassed 500 million streams and releasing a string of acclaimed records including Skinny Dipping, Pink Elephant, f.e.a.r. and WAS HERE. Along the way they’ve scored triple j accolades, chart success across ARIA, Billboard and the UK charts, plus an absolute monster hit in Deathwish featuring nothing, nowhere., which currently sits north of 57 million streams.
They’ve also spent the better part of the last decade becoming one of Australia’s most relentless touring exports – sharing stages with everyone from A Day To Remember through to Simple Plan, while tearing through festivals around the world.
And with Warped Tour, Slam Dunk Festival and more on deck this year, it doesn’t look like they’re slowing down any time soon.
But first: the lovergirl era begins. And we are thoroughly sat.
