Voting for triple j‘s Hottest 100 has officially opened today and to pique our interest the station has put together an action-packed trailer featuring basically everyone who stands a real chance of nabbing a spot in the countdown.
Kevin Parker, Mark Ronson, The Wombats, Foals and Diplo are just a small handful of acts that appear in the video which tracks Matt and Alex as they attempt to find out who’s kidnapping and torturing the artists. Along the way we see Alison Wonderland as a cop, Daniel Johns playing poker against Ice T and Courtney Barnett drag-racing against The Rubens.
It has to be triple j‘s biggest production to date with sweeping camera pans, James Bond-worthy special FX and a jam-packed cast that makes even Love Actually look light on talent.
It’s all in promotion of the Hottest 100 which will be officially counted down on Australia Day 2016. The voting has just opened, meaning it’s time to compile your shortlist of 10 songs that swept you away in 2015.
Out of the last five countdowns, four of the winners have been Australian with Chet Faker, Vance Joy, Gotye and Angus & Julia Stone topping the poll. This year the odds are in favour of Major Lazer, DJ Snake and MØ’s Lean On but Chet Faker’s Trouble With Us and The Weeknd’s Can’t Feel My Face aren’t far behind.

This year, triple j is using the Hottest 100 to support AIME, an organisation bridging the gap between indigenous and non-indigenous students. Once you’re done voting you’ll be able to donate to the organisation or purchase a T-shirt to rock on countdown day.
