Perhaps the most significant moment in the history of triple J’s iconic Hottest 100 is now available in a 2-disc set. 39 tracks from the list were selected for the album, giving a broad oversight of the musical taste of young Australia over the last 20 years.
This countdown was a milestone for more than one reason – not only was it the 20th anniversary of the celebrated chart but it was also got the largest response out of any of the Hottest 100s so far. Triple J was bombarded with More than 940,000 votes over 20 days – it seems Gen Y found something worth voting for.
Of course, the 1995 mega hit Wonderwall by Oasis took out pole position, a decision that was met with a hefty amount of debate. Many of the high-ranking tracks failed to make it to the release. For one reason or another, Foo Fighters Everlong, which took out #5, wasn’t included, nor was The Living End, but you can’t win ’em all.
Die-hards and/or musos can also get their grubby mitts on the official triple j 20 years of Hottest 100 Songbook which contains sheet music for piano, guitar and vocals.
