Two Door Cinema Club Cancel Splendour 2014 Headline Slot: Report

UPDATE 17/07/14 12:10pm AEST: Splendour have confirmed TDCC have cancelled their Australian visit plans, added a new international act to the lineup and bumped City And Colour to the Saturday headline slot. Details here.

Unconfirmed reports out of the UK suggest Splendour In The Grass 2014 headline act Two Door Cinema Club have cancelled their appearance at this year’s festival after lead singer Alex Trimble was hospitalised with a chronic stomach complaint in the US.

Trimble’s illness and the subsequent cancellation of Two Door Cinema Club’s UK Latitude festival headline slot this weekend, as well as a warm-up gig at Bournemouth Academy, were announced on the band’s Facebook page late Wednesday night Australian time.

“Alex collapsed at Seattle airport on the way to London and has been hospitalised with a chronic stomach complaint,” the statement reads. “We are devastated to have to cancel shows that we were so looking forward to. We can only apologise and hope for your understanding at this time.”

Now NME report that the frontman’s illness has also forced the band to pull out of Splendour In The Grass, though no mention of the Byron Bay festival was made in the official statement.

If this information is correct it would be the second headline act in two years to pull out of the festival. Last year Frank Ocean cancelled at the last minute due to damaged vocal cords. Nashville band The Wild Feathers also announced their Splendour 2014 cancellation earlier this week, but were immediately replaced by local act MT Warning.

Two Door Cinema Club are still officially listed as closing the Amphitheatre stage on Saturday, 26th July. It is their only scheduled Australian appearance. The band’s cancellation is yet to be confirmed with Splendour organisers, who have been contacted for comment. More information on this story as it comes to hand.

UPDATE 17/07/14 8:45am AEST: Splendour officials have spoken to Music Feeds about the reports. They would not comment on whether Two Door Cinema Club have been removed from the festival’s lineup, saying only that an official statement would be coming later today. Stay tuned.
