US Rapper Hopsin Quits Music, Moves To Australia

Los Angeles MC Hopsin, who recently toured Australia with 360, has taken to social media to announce he is quitting the music business and moving to Australia.

“Tonight is the night that I am actually moving away to Australia. Over the past couple years I have come to conclusion that this profession just isn’t for me, so im going to venture out into new areas of life,” wrote the MC, real name Marcus Jamal Hopson, on Facebook and Instagram.

“I just wanted to take time out to say I appreciate all of u who have supported my music over these past few years. A Lot of u have told me stories about how I have changed your life. You too have changed mine in ways that u can never imagine.”

The US rapper, known for his socially aware music, has released a whole host of acclaimed mixtapes and albums, including 2013’s Knock Madness and his Ill Mind Of Hopsin videos have attracted millions of hits on YouTube.

“I will always be an MC at heart but this rap stuff just isn’t for me,” continues the post, accompanied by a picture of the rapper in an airport with his luggage. “I hope Youguys can respect it.” Hopsin adds that he’s signed his half of the Funk Volume label to his business partner, and also wished the best of luck to fellow artists Swizzz, Dizzy Wright, and Jarren Benton.

Earlier this year, 360 successfully rallied his fans to contact the American rapper and ask him to join his national Utopia Tour. Following Hopsin’s announcement, 360 also took to Facebook to farewell his former tour mate.

“Wow. I had the pleasure of touring with this dude around Aus,” he wrote. “It’s sad to see him leave the rap game so early he’s so talented. but he is a genuinely great person so I wish him all the best.”

According to Hip Hop DX, Hopsin announced his intentions to move to Australia as early as December last year. During an interview with SKEE TV, below, he said he planned on taking a break following his tour when he hoped to move to Australia and “find myself”.

“The people there are so cool. I like the vibe. I like new places and I like the fact that I’m gonna be there and I’m just gonna not really know anybody,” he added.

“There will be fans who know me and all that, but I’m just gonna be there. I’m not gonna have any real friends and I can start from scratch. I’m gonna be in an area where nobody’s gonna know where I’m at. I’m just [gonna] walk down the street and just meet people. And just make new, organic friends off of me just being Marcus, hopefully.”
