Watch Chet Faker Cover Sonia Dada For ‘Like A Version’

Since he covered Blackstreet‘s No Diggity, Chet Faker‘s penchant for ’90s tunes has been well-established, so it was really no surprise when he drew from the same decade for this week’s triple jLike A Version’ cover series. The Melbourne-based producer took on nineties one-hit-wonder Sonia Dada and their hit track You Don’t Treat Me No Good.

When it was released in 1992, You Don’t Treat Me No Good by the Chicago-based blues band Sonia Dada was a number-one hit in Australia, spending four weeks at the top of the ARIA charts.

Faker brought in his choir or “disciples” as he named them to help out on the tune, labelling his new crew “Chet Faker And The Other Guys”. With the force of his choir, just one plugged in guitar and a couple of hand claps Faker showcased his sweet soul vocals on the hit of decades past.

Apart from his Sonia Dada cover, Faker also delivered a stripped-back version of his track Talk Is Cheap, from his debut record Built On Glass, live in the triple j studio. Since the release of his debut, Faker has been touring constantly, which he explains leaves him a little worn out.

“When you tour that much, no-one’s at 100 per cent, I’m riding on 70. Which is good. I can do 70.” Judging by these performances and his recent gig at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre, which actually contained traces of nudity, we’re not doubting that.
