As all vocalists know, if there are sound issues onstage, you’re gonna have a bad time.
Even if the energy is electric, the crowd is turnt AF and there’s an extra bottle of voddy sitting on the rider out back, a dodgy onstage mix can ruin it all, like a literal giant taking a steaming deuce over the entire gig.
But as infuriating as it can be to perform whilst having literally zero idea whether the notes that are flying from your gullet are the right ones, most will simply just soldier on through the pain.
But not Death Cab For Cutie‘s Ben Gibbard.
During a recent performance of the band’s tune Soul Meets Body in South Carolina, the visibly frustrated frontman ripped out his in-ear monitors, chucked his guitar away and tried ever so hard to continue the performance, but it was not to be.
Gibbard instead cracked the full shits and stormed offstage, leaving the rest of his band behind looking confused & sheepish.
However, the singer’s diva tanty was mercifully brief, with the band reportedly returning to finish their set after a quick breather.
Maybe he was just trying to impress Lauren Mayberry from Chvrches, who joined the Death Cab dudes for a rendish of Brothers On A Hotel Bed, earlier in the evening.
Update 20/06/2016: Death Cab bassist Nick Harmer has opened up in an interview on why Ben Gibbard and the band walked out of their gig mid-song.
