Wollongong Music Venue & Record Store Urge Records Broken Into & Robbed

Wollongong music venue and record store Urge Records has been broken into and robbed, leading its operators to close the establishment and launch a crowdfunding campaign.

In a statement, Urge Records’ owners say they were robbed of cash and other items during the middle of the night on Sunday, 11th March.

“Someone smashed the shit out of our door, breaking into our space and stealing our cash box and some other items,” they say.

“It’s a real shame when you think you are doing something good for a community and some people decide they want to take advantage of that. Thanks a lot to the jerks who did this.”

Venue operators say they have had to board up their entrance, because their front door is no longer functioning. They’ve also set up a GoFundMe page to help raise $3,000 — which will go towards “the purchase and installation of a roller door and a security system” — following an “overwhelming response” from customers and local music fans.

At the time of writing, over $600 has been raised.

“Thank you all so much for the support,” they say. “It’s great to see the strength and support through the community.”

NSW Police has told Music Feeds it is aware of the incident, which allegedly occurred between 6pm on Sunday and 10am on Monday. Anyone who has any information regarding the break-in is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
