Young Axl Rose’s Pre-Guns N’ Roses Demos Surface Online

A guitar player called Kevin Lawrence posted a sample of his 1983 band Rapidfire to YouTube last week, which is probably of zero interest to anyone except Kevin’s mum ever, until you remember that their vocalist was none other than Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose.

The recording is reportedly the first-ever studio session for young Mr Rose, who was just 21 at the time, and features a lower register than his Appetite For Destruction-era vocals. The dudes at Brave Words are saying that just 3 days after this recording, the Sweet Child O’ Mine singer was first spotted by guitarist Slash while fronting Rapidfire at Gazzarri’s on The Sunset Strip in Los Angeles, and the rest is history.

So, what does the young Axl sound like? Well, it would be fair to say cheesy to say that every Rose has its thorn, but you can clearly hear the cock rock legend that Axl was to become. Just no-one mention Chinese Democracy, OK?

Guns N’ Roses have pencilled in the release of their sixth studio album for 2014, so apparently fans won’t have to wait 17 years between records this time.
