Brisbane duo DZ Deathrays took home the Best Hard Rock And Heavy Metal Album ARIA this year, thanks to their stellar 2014 release Black Rat. Prior to this year’s award ceremony, vocalist/guitarist Shane Parsons described to Music Feeds’ Mike Hohnen the kind of mindset he and his band mate Simon Ridley are usually in when potential awards come their way.
“I have zero expectations. That’s my life motto,” Parsons said. “I mean it’s flattering to be nominated. We’re up against some pretty big competition this time.”
Parsons also reflected on how the ARIAs experience felt two years ago, revealing that the duo were genuinely chuffed to win the same award in 2012 for their album Bloodstreams. “We were quite surprised when we won it two years ago… It’s just nice to be here,” Parsons said.
DZ Deathrays will perform at Mountain Sounds Festival in February.
