Interview: Billy Talent – Soundwave 2013

Billy Talent last year released their fourth studio album Dead Silence. The record set new ground for the Canadian punk band, not only breaking from their tradition of titling their albums with numbers based on order of release, but also being their first LP produced solely in-house by guitarist Ian D’Sa.

With Dead Silence, Billy Talent looked to re-establish their punk rock roots and create a record geared toward live performance. However, with the events that have surrounded Dead Silence, the album has taken on a new life and meaning that the band had not foreseen.

Touring Australia as part of Soundwave 2013, D’Sa and bassist Jonathan Gallant spoke with Music Feeds about the decision to self-produce Dead Silence, appreciation earned through hardship and how the dramas of Stage 2 at Sydney’s Soundwave led to a set Billy Talent will remember forever.
