Interview: Cold War Kids Talk New Music, Modest Mouse & Recording With A Clear Vision

Los Angeles four-piece Cold War Kids have returned to Australian shores for appearances at Falls and Southbound Festivals plus extra two headlining sideshows in Sydney and Melbourne and in between managed to squeeze in some time to chat to Music Feeds about recording their new album, bringing on new band members and choosing a set list from their extensive back catalogue.

The band say the process of making their latest full length, Dear Miss Lonelyhearts, was very “focused”, free from any kind of internal arguments and clear in vision. That’s in part to their new lineup, with the band having welcomed Modest Mouse alum in the form of guitarist Dann Gallucci and drummer Joe Plummer.

“For the four of us when we started we didn’t really have a kinship with other bands,” explains frontman Nathan Willett. “We had bands we toured with that we loved but not really a family that we felt like we came from… These guys have been in a lot of bands and a lot of experience that they’re bringing. It just feels like it’s comfortable.”
