Interview: Cypress Hill – Soundwave 2013

To be the only hip-hop act at a predominately metal festival would be daunting to most, unless of course that act is Cypress Hill. 25 years in the game has seen the legendary rap group transcend the world of hip-hop and win over fans with heavier musical tastes.

As Cypress Hill’s drummer Eric Bobo explains, there exists a shared aggression between hip-hop and metal that helps link two seemingly opposing genres. It’s that aggressive energy that Cypress Hill tap into onstage, allowing hip-hop veterans to rock a crowd with just a mic in their hand.

While speaking with Music Feeds backstage at Sydney Soundwave, Bobo spoke about the new Cypress Hill album; the group’s continued desire to work together, and how the energy of the audience helps keep hits like Insane in the Brain and Hits From the Bong feeling fresh.
