Interview: Gotye – The Reflection of ‘Making Mirrors’ – Part 4
Wally De Backer aka Gotye is only hours away from playing the final show of his current national tour. The recent string of dates come at the end of almost two years of touring behind the award-winning album Making Mirrors. In that time Gotye has transcended from local act to international sensation behind the runaway hit Somebody That I Used to Know.
Waiting to take the stage in front of a packed Sydney Entertainment Centre, the same building where Gotye collected multiple ARIA Awards only weeks ago, De Backer sat down to reflect on life since the release of Making Mirrors.
Part 4 speaks on the evolution of De Backer as a performer. Having recently played before friends, family and 10,000 fans in his hometown of Melbourne, the show represented the collimation of Gotye’s effort and ambition.
Whereas De Backer was previously apprehensive at the prospect of touring, Gotye has formed into a quality live act that is eager and able to entertain bigger venues. Having grown more comfortable with the trials and rigours of touring, De Backer is now able to appreciate what was once dissatisfying and bask in the moment.
