Interview: Grouplove at Splendour in the Grass 2011

The crew got to hang out backstage with a charming band of rag-tag indie kids called Grouplove. Apart from displaying the most diverse range of hairstyles and colours of all the bands at the festival they also shared the story of the band’s genesis – apparently they all met on the Greek island of Crete in a hippie commune, passing a guitar around (probably passing something else around too, am I right?) and sharing their music. They all came from different cities (except two who came from LA) so they kept in email contact and eventually decided the music they were making was pretty great so they formed a proper band, ‘Grouplove’, named after their group email sign-offs.

During the course of the interview, they appear unable to stop hugging each other. Their LP is coming out in September, so look out for it – it seems to be a truly collaborative effort from a band of talented, creative hipster-hippies.

MFTV trekked up to Woodfordia for Splendour In The Grass 2011 to hang out and get the low down with some of the big names. With a lineup featuring Kanye, Pulp, The Hives, Regina Spektor, Devendra Banhart, Mogwai, Mars Volta and more, the MFTV crew snuck their camera into all the famous faces they could find.
