Interview: Highasakite Talk Laneway Festival, Breaking In New Fans

Music Feeds recently caught up with Norwegian indie poppers Highasakite, who paid their first visit to Australia last month, and talked to Music Feeds exclusively about their next appearance on our shores as part of Laneway Festival 2015.

Highasakite’s maiden national tour came behind the band’s recently released second album (although their first released Down Under) Silent Treatment. On the reach of their new record, vocalist Ingrid Helene Håvik explains that quality music doesn’t always equate to high rotation.

“I’m really happy about the record,” said vocalist Ingrid Helene Håvik, “But it doesn’t mean always that people are going to like it or that people are going to hear about it.”

Although the band might be prudent to err on the side of caution, Highasakite needn’t worry so much thanks to catchy single Since Last Wednesday getting its fair share of airplay on triple j. Still Håvik notes the difference in reception the popular Norwegian outfit gets in foreign markets.

“It’s really weird to be so ‘popular’ in one place and then no-one [knows you] in the other place.”

With their first Australian tour now all wrapped up, no doubt Aussie fans are better acquainted with Highasakite and eager for their return next year. You can see the full Laneway 2015 lineup here.
