The latest big thing from Sweden, Icona Pop, has absolutely taken Australia by storm. Currently in town off the back of their most recent EP as well as in anticipation of their forthcoming full-length album, Aino Jawo and Caroline Hjelt, who make up the duo, caught up with Music Feeds for an Icona Pop rundown.
In part 1 of the interview, the pair discuss their perception of Australia. This tour marks their first time Down Under, and by the sounds of things we will be leaving them with a good impression. Back home, the girls would most commonly find themselves performing club shows in front of a raving crowd – a big difference from the sun-kissed outdoor festivals that they have been frequenting while in town, though the raving, drunken crowd part seems to be universal.
The Smash hit single from Icona Pop I Love It has recently topped the Australian iTunes chart, something they never expected to happen on the other side of the world, but it’s obvious that they are onto something good. The EP Iconic has pricked up the ears of not only fans and media, but fellow artists, with Charli XCX, St Lucia and others featuring on the release. The overwhelming approval from the peers is another thing they never expected, though collaborations – that were included on the track Mind Your Manners by Chiddy Bang only to be remixed again by Childish Gambino – are fast becoming their favourite part of making music.
