Interview: Opossom On MFTV, Sydney 2012

The Opossom project started out purely as an experimental project through a series of self-recorded tracks at Cody’s home studio. The results led to live performance offers, and additional instrumentalists (sourced from Cody’s friends) were soon added to help get the show on the road.

Opossom’s musical tastes are very broad as he allows various influences to just seep into his consciousness when writing. His main intention is to compose music that reminds him of the way music he is into makes him feel. Rather then setting out to make a specific kind of record, he lets nature take its own course without structuring things too much. His new album Electric Hawaii was released earlier this month and encapsulates this free expression and experimental process.

“So like, when I’m recording, as long as it’s fun, I think it’s on the right track. For me, as long as I’m enjoying it or like enjoy what I’m hearing back, I think that seems like I’m on the right track.”

Opossom has been getting a great response from the young and enthusiastic crowds attending his recent tour alongside US band White Arrows and locals Jinja Safari. Following up on the success of recent performance, Opossom has confirmed a number of North American and European tour dates throughout October and early November this year.
