Hip-hop collective The Herd were one of over 200 acts that helped bring 2012 to a rocking close at Peats Ridge. Although The Herd’s last album Future Shade came out in 2011, last year was still filled with highlights for the group and their Elefant Traks label mates.
Reflecting back on 2012, Herd members Traksewt and Rok Poshtya discussed some of their memorable moments of the recently passed year. Among the events that made the list were the Dr Seuss Shows, wherein The Herd and other artists signed to Elefant Traks merged their tunes with Dr Seuss-inspired imagery.
Rok Poshtya notes the success of Hermitude’s 2012 album HyperParadise. Being one of the first acts signed to Elefant Traks, the rise of the Blue Mountain duo means a lot to all those attached to the label. Traksewt also points to The Herd’s cover of Sam Cooke’s A Change Is Gonna Come for triple j’s Like A Version as another standout.
Touching on the stuggles of getting The Herd together to write and record another album, Traksewt and Rok Poshtya suggest that a new record could be out in 2014 and offer a New Year’s resolution of hopefully playing more than one gig in 2013.
