Things got orchestral when we had Jack Colwell come into Music Feeds Studio, along with a small strings section, his heavenly guitar, and his silver voice to work through his recent single, Far From View. The track sees Colwell apply the classical chops he learnt at the Sydney Conservatorium High School, while channeling equal parts Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and Antony and the Johnsons.
Sitting down with Jack for a quick interview, he regaled us with the story of how he met current touring partner and former Killing Heidi frontwoman Ella Hooper, an epic story that involves Homebake, a dumping, a VIP area, New Zealand songstress Kimbra, stolen rider food, and $10 for a sandwich.
“When I first met Ella that very fateful day at Homebake, I was pretty starstruck,” Jack told us, “because when I first started learning bass guitar as a nine or ten-year-old kid on the Northern Beaches, I remember saving up all my money and going to buy Reflector at Big W, a very rock and roll experience. Weir and Mascara were some of the first songs I ever learnt.”
