James Blake – ‘I Need A Forest Fire’ (ft. Bon Iver)

Two of the most talented songwriters and vocalists of this decade working in collaboration is really not all that exciting.

Right? Guys?

This single I Need A Forest Fire, taken from James Blake’s newly released album, The Colour In Anythingis heart-stoppingly beautiful, with buzzing sampled vocal snippets (both from himself and Bon Iver) gradually assembling its rhythm, long-held airy high melodic synth lines, and the eventual meeting of these two voices in soaring harmony.

The video is a stunning play between light and dark, as various art installations are slowly unveiled from the shadows. As the camera encircles these structures, we see the sun, the moon, and the earth in orbit, drift wood, leaves and what slowly unveils itself to be a human, which then slowly assembles itself to be James Blake.

At the video’s close, a single rose is set on fire in a dark room, the shadow of an eagle flies overhead and the setting sun is engulfed by a swarm of bats. This video mixes smooth modern lines and shapes with the raw unrefined natural world, continually shifting our perception of what it is that we are actually looking at.

Well done boys. More please.
